La Cala is originally a fishing village and has lots of local life, markets, etc. There are good shopping opportunities within walking distance as well as plenty of coziness at one of the many restaurants in the city center.

You can read more about the area and how to get there here

TO GET THERE
If you arrive with plane at Malaga airport you have several options:

1. This is what I do: Take the train (C1 (Cercanias 1) from the airport towards Fuengirola. It takes about 30 minutes and cost 2,70€ pr. person. It leaves every 20 minutes. From Fuengirola, it is easiest to take a cap (14€) to the apartment in La Cala de Mijas. (Bus from Fuengirola to La Cala de Mijas is possible also)

2. Cap from airport to La Cala de Mijas is around 50€ (I do it when arriving late or when I am very lazy :-))

3. Rent a car – it’s cheap and you can easily go around the coast and mountains

PARKING
There is lots of free parking around the building. There is a “hidden” parking also behind Esmeralda 1, drive-in right next to the grocery shop in the building.

CHECK-IN/OUT TIME
Its flexible, but if we don’t agree otherwise;
Check-in: 15.00
Checkout 11.00

WHEN YOU ARRIVE
When arriving the apartment is cleaned and beds are made. The bathroom has towels, and there is water for a start in the fridge. So this is what you should expect on arrival.

WHEN LEAVING
You DON’T have to wash sheets & towels, floors or bathroom. This is included in the cleaning fee.

EXPECTED OF YOU WHEN LEAVING
Carry out garbage, wash dishes and leave it tidy.

GET AROUND
You have a short distance to the beach (350m) and the center of town (850m). It’s a lovely neighborhood and its kept very clean. From town, you can go by bus to Marbella, Fuengirola, and Malaga (and possibly anywhere :-))

SHOPPING
Shopping simple groceries (and heavy stuff like water) is possible in a small local supermarket in the building Esmeralda 1. You will possibly want to shop for more special food, fish, and meat. For this, there is Marcadona – a supermarket 10 minutes away.

MARKET´S
Every Saturday and Wednesdays there is a street market in town. It’s in walking distance, but ask for directions when you hit the town. A lot of Chinese electronics and fake copies of everything is sold, but you can find good fruits and veg’s, nuts, olives and a dress for the beach here. Tuesday is a street market in Fuengirola which is bigger (the biggest on the coast) and has more handicrafts.

PLACES TO GO
Ronda: A bigger village in the mountains. It’s a great trip in the car up there and a nice full-day trip.
Mijas: This nearest white city is the center of the Mijas region. It’s touristic, but have great eating, small handicraft shops. Go deep in the city – there will be fewer people and you can peek into the local gardens. I really like the Photo art Gallery.

PLACES TO EAT
Finer dining: El Olivo de la Cala.
This fine restaurant is just by the beach. I go here twice a year. They have great food and drinks and you can take a beach walk before and after.

Also, do a search for La Lala de Mijas on Trip advisor
I have not been to them all – but give me a hint if you find any really good places :-).
